Position Descriptions (Administrative Secretariat)

These position descriptions are tentative and will be finalized by May 1, 2013.

(NOTE: No Model United Nations Experience is necessary for any of these positions except Director of Special Simulations, News Director, and Director of Home Government.)

Director of Special Simulations: The Director of Special Simulations is responsible for organizing any extra-topical simulations such as crisis situations during the conference. Prior to the conference, the Director of Special Simulations will plan simulations and recruit a simulations team to help in the execution of the crisis situation during the conference, including researching regions and/or issues, drafting documents, and delivering news to committees.

News Director: The News Director’s job is to find relevant news information and distribute it to the delegates during the course of the conference. The News Director will be a part of the simulation, presenting crisis committees with information to help them get a broader knowledge of the crisis situation as it happens. The News Director will also be responsible for creating press releases for (and from) the delegates.

Director of Home Government: The Director of Home Government is responsible for scheduling and coordinating all members of Home Government. Home Government is a location for delegates to check their country’s positions on issues, as well as to consult with experts in the field of international relations or a given topic.

Office Manager: The Office Manager is responsible for overseeing the Delegate Computer Lab and managing its day-to-day operations. These include the processing and printing of all working papers and draft resolutions, as well as any other tasks during the conference requested by staff. The Office Manager also produces the physical award certificates once award recipients are determined. Prior to the conference, the Office Manager works with the Assistant Secretary-General for Conference Services to assist in acquisition of office supplies and printing materials.

Networking & Technology Manager: The Networking & Technology Manager is responsible for all equipment maintenance, specifically referring to computers and printers in the Delegate Computer Lab, as well as the networking of the computer lab. The Network & Technology Manager will also be asked to assist with website and database management prior to the conference. Prior to the conference, the Merchandising Manager works with the Assistant Secretary-General for Conference Services to assist in equipment acquisition.

Merchandising Manager: The Merchandising Manager is responsible for the facilitation of merchandise sales for the conference, including conference apparel and other physical item sales. Prior to the conference, the Merchandising Manager works with the Assistant Secretary-General for Conference Services to assist in inventory acquisition and management.

Reporting and Documentation Manager: The Reporting and Documentation Manager is responsible for facilitating  record-keeping across the conference, as well as producing documents chronicling the work of the conference for use by delegates as well as external readers and sponsors. The Reporting and Documentation Manager will also be responsible for taking photos and video around the conference in partnership with conference leadership and the Board of Directors.

Conference Services Staff: The Conference Services staff positions will be responsible for helping the Assistant Secretary-General for Conference Services, Office Manager, and Networking & Technology Manager. They will assist in making copies and other administrative tasks, as well as performing substantive research on country positions for Home Government. Conference Services staff from previous years will be given priority in Administrative Secretariat hiring, so they are a good fit for applicants interested in getting an idea of what a Model United Nations conference is like, as well as those applicants interested in developing their experience to serve in other positions at future years of NWMUN.
